Hi Designers, 👋🏻 this is Layers fashion design studio.
We are a fashion design studio focused on fashion product design for menswear and sportswear. Through this newsletter we want to share highlights and tips from the field we work in. Hope you enjoy and feel free to get in touch!
During SS23 French brand Coperni showcased a spray-on fabric performance. Bella Hadid was covered with a non woven fabric. During the performance the white compost seemed to be snowflakes, but the contact with the body made it become solid (non woven fabric). We think this could be a huge innovation, and we want to tell you why. But first let’s discover a bit more about the technology.
In 2012, Spanish Designer, Manel Torres presented its idea at a TedX talk. The concept is based on chemistry, in fact this liquid fabric (called Fabrican) is composed by cotton or synthetic fibers suspended into a polymeric solution which evaporates by getting in contact with the human body. The performance of this new material are surprising.
Imagine using this technology applied to sportswear, exploiting its potentials at the fullest. Imagine creating t-shirts with a spray can, that you can just use and repair any time you want. Completely seamless, with its fit that adjust to your body. No need for the right size.
We believe this could become a huge innovation for sportswear, more that fashion.
